South Baltimore Crime Updates

UPDATE: Recent Violent Crimes on South Baltimore Peninsula / White BMW SUV
Over the weekend and today I spoke with the BPD Southern District Major and Captain and the Police Commissioner’s Office regarding recent incidents of violent crime on the South Baltimore Peninsula.

Background: The following four incidents occurred recently, all involving an unknown white BMW SUV.

Fri, Feb 16, 5:50pm – 400 block of E Gittings St – bump and run followed by armed robbery
Wed, Feb 21, 6:53am – 600 block of E Randall St – car jacking
Thu, Feb 22, 5:40am – 1400 block of Riverside Ave – armed robbery
Thu, Feb 22, 9:10pm – 1100 block of Wicomico St – robbery (not on peninsula)

Pursuit of the white BMW SUV: On Friday, Feb 23, at around 9:50pm the white BMW SUV was spotted in South Baltimore and BPD began to pursue. Foxtrot (BPD’s helicopter was called in for support). Due to the high speed of the vehicle fleeing, BPD followed their no-pursuit policy as the vehicle was not reported to be in the commission of a crime at the time it was sighted. BPD does not have a tag for this vehicle as multiple reports confirmed that the rear license tag had illegal tint covering the tag.

Other incidents (believed to be unrelated): In addition, there were two other incidents reported that are believed to be unrelated to this pattern:

Tue, Feb 20, 4:10pm – 1500 block of Riverside Ave – robbery
Mon, Feb 26, 12:30am – unit block of E Randall St – armed car jacking

BPD Response: in response, BPD has deployed the Mobile Metro Unit (MMU), the Southern District’s District Action Team (DAT), and an increased patrol presence. The increased deployment will continue as BPD continues to investigate this pattern.

According to the BPD Crime Map, the following crimes were from 2/21/24 to 2/27/24.
