Southern District Crime Down 17% To Date in 2014

1PCBPDThe Baltimore City Police Department Southern District (map), which includes the South Peninsula, Pigtown, SoWeBo, Cherry Hill, Curtis Bay, Morrell Park and areas around Middle Branch, has experienced a 17% decrease in crime this year through March 15, 2014 compared to the beginning of last year through March 15, 2013.

Homicides are even at three, shootings are down 67%, forcible rape is down 20%, total robbery is down 25%, aggravated assault is down 35%, larceny is down 27%, and arson is down 10%. Burglary is up 31% and auto theft is up 2%. Total violent crime is down 30%, total property crime is down 13% and total Part I crime is down 17%.

With burglaries on the rise, especially on the South Peninsula, Major Ian Dombroski told SouthBMore.com that only one incident has been reported in Sector 4 (South Peninsula, Ridgely’s Delight, Stadium Area) since March 7th. The burglary occurred yesterday and an arrest was made immediately.
