The Baltimore City Police Department Southern District (map), which includes the South Peninsula, Pigtown, SoWeBo, Cherry Hill, Curtis Bay, Morrell Park and areas around Middle Branch, has experienced a 17% decrease in crime this year through March 15, 2014 compared to the beginning of last year through March 15, 2013.
Homicides are even at three, shootings are down 67%, forcible rape is down 20%, total robbery is down 25%, aggravated assault is down 35%, larceny is down 27%, and arson is down 10%. Burglary is up 31% and auto theft is up 2%. Total violent crime is down 30%, total property crime is down 13% and total Part I crime is down 17%.
With burglaries on the rise, especially on the South Peninsula, Major Ian Dombroski told SouthBMore.com that only one incident has been reported in Sector 4 (South Peninsula, Ridgely’s Delight, Stadium Area) since March 7th. The burglary occurred yesterday and an arrest was made immediately.
